Let's start with workmanship and professionalism. And, attention to detail. Oh, and timely construction completed on budget. These are the things we expected, and received from Bouffard & McFarland. But, it was the hundreds of little things that happened along the way that turned our ideas into a home we absolutely love, and one that we are proud to share with family and friends. We went into our first home-building experience - after living in the same house for 32 years, with caution, but with a real concept of how we wanted the house to function and how we intended to live in the space. From the very beginning, our input was welcomed and throughout the process those thoughts were incorporated into the design. We had some tough discussions, but worked through each and every one to mutual satisfaction. The two-story house, with 2,950 square feet, is really two spaces - one open-concept living space on the first floor for just the two of us, with the second-floor with bedrooms and family room kicking in when family visits. It is ideal for two, and remains so when the house is chock full. When we first met with the Bouffards, we understood function. What they understand is appeal, suggesting ways to make our home unique, including expansive windows to capture the view, and crown molding throughout the first floor that never fails to draw compliments. Never yielding on constructability and first-class construction, they were open and intrigued with our whimsical ideas. For instance, we worked together to make a bookcase and library ladder the focus of the kitchen, to make the custom walk-in shower a real showpiece in the master bath, and how to incorporate a spacious butler's pantry off the kitchen without diminishing space in the adjacent powder room and den. And, when we asked for the outrageous - like a peanut pass-through door from the den into the pantry so we could easily reach a snack - the Bouffards stifled their giggles and installed the door. It's a highlight of both the pantry and the den. When we saw the long roofline on the garage we said it needs a cupola, and we got it - and it's illuminated. How cool is that? We had very specific requests for garage space, screened-in porch, generous kitchen, and wall space accommodating certain pieces of family furniture. Every request was satisfied, well beyond our expectations. And, when we had concerns or questions, they were addressed and answered - even a year after moving in. We have lived in our home nearly 18 months, and we are still reminded of finishing touches that make us smile. Like the tight corner joinery that marries the basement door and the porch door together with the same elegance as more common locations. The finished project is beyond our expectations both in style and space. Reggie, Gary, Kelsey and company built us a home that we love. We love walking in the door. B&M made our custom home building experience easy. We were originally attracted to a subdivision and specific lot, which B&M developed thoughtfully... amazing views, rural setting, with convenient interstate and in town access. This past June we moved into our new home built by Bouffard and Mcfarland Builders. Working with Reggie and Gary on the construction of our new home was a very positive experience. The open and friendly approach coupled with quality workmanship helped reduce the stress of the building process. One of the reasons we hired Bouffard and McFarland was the quality of their finish work. After seeing some of their work, we knew that was what we wanted for our home. When my wife and I decided (after years of looking at available homes) to build, we were faced with many obstacles. First, we live 2300 miles from what was to become our dream Maine home; Second, how do we find quality reliable builders that will translate our ideas into reality; Third, will the builders be around to help us with future concerns after our move in date. We had heard so many horror stories of delayed completions, budget increases, etc. That we spent a tremendous time picking the best builder in Maine for us. Bouffard and Mcfarland was a name we heard repeatedly and we were able to view a custom home they completed. All our friends in Texas that built homes were so envious of the professional way Gary and Reggie treated us and our questions. Our home was built of quality materials, on time, and within our budget. Five years later, Gary and Reggie are still there for our questions, maintenance issues (which have been relatively few) and general explanations. Their work is so detailed and careful, that we asked them to build a library in our basement this spring. My wife and I drew rather crude plans that Gary and Reggie translated (in our absence) to the library of our dreams.
